This site, which is in English, is a stylishly designed showpiece for the work of Jordan's Ammar Khammash, with separate sections covering architecture and art. Ammar Khammash Architects is a small practice dealing with a wide range of design and research activities, including planning, circulation and landscape management schemes, building design, and interior design. Features of the Architecture section include a beautifully illustrated projects archive, a publications and articles section, and a page of Jordan and architecture-related links. The Art section is no less rich, with information about the artist, and good quality reproductions of the artworks themselves. A high quality and enjoyable site, which is well worth a visit. Established for more than twelve years, the firm describes itself as "a rapidly expanding company, with many career opportunities". Furthermore, with offices in south east London, it sees itself as being "in a prime position to take advantage of the opportunities arising out of the successful 2012 Olympic bid". Apex's work in Gloucestershire and across the UK is illustrated in an attractive portfolio section of the site. Archaeo Architects describe themselves as "an award-winning architectural firm in Santa Fe, New Mexico focusing on a limited number of projects to which we offer personal, superior service. Our project style is inspired by the universal order that can be found in ruins and ancient buildings coupled with the most up to date elements of present day building and design". The site, designed using Flash, includes a helpful practice profile, with details of its partners, awards and coverage in publications. The highlight of the site is its excellent portfolio section, providing a wealth of information on Archaeo's residential and commercial schemes; stunning images are accompanied by useful descriptions of each project. The site highlights the themes of 'light', 'site' and 'space' - looking at some of the projects, and their amazing rootedness in the New Mexico landscape, it is easy to see why. Regular Sapling users will know that we don't care much for white or grey text on a black background, something the Archaeo site is guilty of. This quibble aside, however, Archaeo Architects have managed to create site that is visually impressive, rich and informative. Awarded a Sapling Commendation. [GAS, 15 Sep 2006].

The site is nicely designed and straightforward to navigate, with the information you would expect about the company, its services and its clients. One of the most useful features of the site is its excellent projects section, including many examples of Barr Gazetas' work across eight 'project sectors' - masterplans; office new build, refurbishments and fit-outs; hotels; bars and restaurants; residential and retail. Each case study is well-illustrated with high quality drawings and photographs, supplemented by appropriate annotation. Elsewhere on the site, three urban design papers, written by partner Alistair Barr, add further value. Overall, this is a rich and informative site, awarded a Sapling Commendation. Founded in Dublin in 1997, Box Architecture claims to have "established its practice on the forefront of design... with a hands-on approach using detailed models, technical expertise and creative execution in the presentation and design medium, Box Architecture reflects an ethos of the highest principle within a wide scale of projects". The company describes its site as "inviting and sophisticated", and true enough, it presents a slick and professional image. In the eyes of this reviewer, however, it does suffer from the usual architectural clichés, including counter-intuitive navigation and an aversion to capital letters. Fortunately, once you unearth the main menu (hold your mouse to the left of the 'box') and look beyond these irritations, the site has much to enjoy. The 'about' section includes comprehensive information about the practice, its history, people, competition entries and (many) awards. An extensive, illustrated projects listing features some excellent quality images, though some additional annotation would be useful. A 'glimpse' section, divided into 'light', 'material' and 'dimension', links to relevant project information. [GAS, 17 Aug 2005].

News from the practice also features, togethers with a profile of its core values. Despite the American Samoa domain name, the business is in fact based in Copenhagen, Denmark - this is the only incongruity in a site that otherwise conveys a polished and highly professional image. The company describes its philosophy as being dedicated to "designing buildings that use natural materials and processes to work with nature rather than to fight it... we specify durable timber rather than use CCA timber treatment... we suggest that natural paints, stains and waxes may be safer to apply and more beautiful to live with... and above all we believe that buildings should be designed to be joyful to use and to live in". The design of the site is quite minimalistic; however, the drawings of proposed projects and good quality photographs of completed self build schemes are an enlivening presence which prevent the site slipping into architectural pretension. This is a very rich and elegantly designed site, available in HTML or Flash versions. Happily, the HTML version is no poor relation, with access to the full content of the site; the Flash version, with its clever effects, can be a little infuriating if you wish to find information quickly and without fuss. In either version, sections cover news, studio, contacts and information (with details of awards, competetion entries and publications). However, the highlight of the site is its full list of Foster and Partners' projects, which can be organised chronologically, alphabetically, by location or by building type. There is a short article about each scheme, accompanied by some quite stunning images, including some movies. In all, this is a splendid insight into one of Britain's most celebrated and enduring architects and practices, deservedly awarded a Sapling Commendation. [GAS, 11 Aug 2005].

Described as an "e-folio of young Italian architects", this site uses what it describes as "minimal flash design to give best result to their works, mostly projects for international competitions, [and] shows the studio's research in architecture through high quality images of real maquettes and 3D visualisation". In reality, the site appears to be designed entirely in Flash, but the technology is used with care to create a user experience that is rich and engaging. The menu system takes some getting used to, but the site's visual professionalism and image quality is impressive. [GAS, 15 Sep 2006].
