The AHRC Centre for Irish and Scottish Studies establishes a partnership of three institutions: University of Aberdeen, Trinity College Dublin and Queen's University Belfast, with considerable expertise in these fields. According to the Centre's site, it promotes "high-quality single-discipline, comparative and interdisciplinary research and postgraduate training with special reference to history, literary and cultural studies, and languages at a time of significant constitutional change within Britain and Ireland in order to provide an informed understanding of historical and cultural influences, which have shaped relationships between Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland". As well as background about the Centre and its research projects, the site provides information on its management, postgraduate studies, people, news, events and jobs. Centre for Northern Studies

Based at Northumbria University in Newcastle, the Centre for Northern Studies was established in November 1997 with the aim of consolidating and developing the then department of Historical and Critical Studies' growing portfolio of regional activities. Today, it undertakes an exciting range of activities relating to the North East of England, including research, conferences, publications and postgraduate training. This site is small but well organised, with information about the Centre, latest news, staff, research opportunities and publications. Contents lists for previous issues of Northern Review, a journal of regional and cultural affairs, are also included, and a comprehensive, online version of Myers Literary Guide to North-East England (accessed via the links page) has recently been added. Based at the University of Québec, the 'Urbanisation, Culture et Societé' Centre houses a team of thirty full-time social scientists (professors/ researchers) working on a wide range of issues. The major research areas are: cities and regions; population; and culture, science and technology. The Centre's website is clearly organised, and gives a very professional appearance. The default language is French, but complete English and Spanish versions are also available. In addition to news and information about the Centre, its staff, and its research areas, the site features a useful publications section (with research reports and working papers available to download in PDF format), and an excellent selection of online tools and databases relating to the Centre's work. PLACE Education & Research Centre

The PLACE Education & Research Centre developed from an initiative within York St John College and became a company limited by guarantee in March 2004 and a registered charity in December 2004. The main PLACE office is based at York St John College in York, with additional bases at the University of Bradford and the University of York. PLACE has two charitable objects as part of its mission: "To promote research into the people, landscape and cultural environment of Yorkshire and elsewhere and to disseminate the useful results for the benefit of the general public" and "To advance the education of the public in the people and the natural and cultural heritage of Yorkshire and elsewhere".
