Bentheim is a London-based interior designer offering what it describes as "cutting edge interior design within budget constraints for retail, restaurant, exhibition, office, hotel and some residential design". The overall aim of the website is to showcase the interior design work of David Bentheim, and it does this extremely effectively - mainly through high quality images of his work for clients such as Wagamama, the Natural History Museum and Iberdrola, and through brief textual annotations that help convey something of Bentheim's design philosophy. To complete the picture, the website also includes background information about the company, a client list, news of upcoming designs, and a page of links to useful resources. With an eyecatching, intuitive interface and excellent quality content, Bentheim has created an impressive site, deservedly awarded a Sapling Commendation. [GAS, 28 Aug 2006].

Brinkworth

The London-based interior design and architectural consultancy Brinkworth, set up in 1990, has done some very high profile work with the likes of Karen Millen across the UK, and the artist Dinos Chapman's house. The firm's website is - on first impressions - very appealing, though content is a little thin. An extensive portfolio provides good quality images of Brinkworth's work to date, covering retail, offices, exhibition, showrooms, schools and domestic projects, though the lack of annotation is disappointing. The 'about us' section includes graphics that look like they should be links, but lead nowhere - this may be a mistake, or could simply be a slightly confusing way of articulating the firm's key qualities. The many rave reviews featured on the 'press and PR' page do offer a useful insight into where Brinkworth are coming from, but overall the site is very much a visual feast rather than a source of detailed information. Based in India, The Design Firm describes itself as "a multi-faceted design firm... offering architectural, interior and exhibition design services as well as 3D visualisation, architectural rendering, walkthroughs, graphics, leaflets, illustration and logo design". As well as information about the company's services, the site includes an online portfolio with high quality images, free 3D models and textures to download, and a page of related links. Though the white text on a red background is unpleasant, the site is quite well laid out - it is a shame that the banner and pop-up ads detract from what is otherwise a reasonably professional appearance. London-based MET Studio Design Ltd is an international, award-winning design consultancy with "an enviable reputation for creativity, innovation and efficient delivery of ground-breaking visitor experiences worldwide - from corporate venues to museums, exhibitions and zoos". The site is available in English and Portuguese, and is comprehensive in its content, offering clear and precise information about the company's goals, the services it provides and a list of past and current clients. Throughout the site, there are plenty of images of the company's work to accompany the text, keeping things interesting and lively. The site is both effective and user-friendly: easily navigable with a clear home-page, the user is led through the site with no excess baggage. All appropriate contact information is provided, including a map to HQ, company vacancies and the links list is extensive. Awarded a Sapling Commendation. [DJP/GAS, 20 Jun 2006].

Morris Associates Exhibition Design

This site has been produced to provide background information on Morris Associates Exhibition Design and examples of the firm's previous experience. Ambitiously, it is also intended to act as "an instant brochure to define our style and minimalist design approach that might attract client and projects with similar objectives", as well as having "the potential to interest potential designers and working partners who have a similar design ethos". The site's home page certainly creates a positive visual impression, though it takes a few moments to realise that this is merely a splash page linking through to the client directory section. Once there, the true structure and content of the site is revealed, with a very clear menu system and effective contrast between the background and text. Features include a short company profile, illustrated coverage of the firm's services, an excellent collection of illustrated case studies (each with interesting and thorough descriptions) and a page of links to other sites related to Morris Associates' work. Elsewhere, a projects section features some good quality photographs illustrating the company's expertise, but lacks explanatory text - it would be useful to annotate the images, or perhaps simply merge this content into the case studies section. Overall, however, Morris Associates have created a sleek, intuitive and content-rich site that provides an effective showcase for their distinctive design philosophy. [GAS, 11 Sep 2006].

According to the site, the company has "built effective partnerships with architectural firms, developers, museums and private clients both at home and abroad. With a team of accomplished professionals, Simon Morris Associates design studios has built up an enviable reputation in all associated disciplines". The site offers full coverage of the firm's "design concepts and solutions", with sections covering lighting, interior, museum, exhibition and graphic design, as well as object mounting, corporate identity and marketing. Overall, the site is neatly designed and well-illustrated, with just two particular niggles - first, for greatest accessibility, because the use of white text on a black background would be better avoided; and second, because there seems little reason why every page of the site should open in a new browser window. London-based Spence Harris Hogan Associates (SHH) are an interior design and architecture practice who employ "a number of new construction concepts within their leisure, retail, commercial and domestic projects". The site is refreshingly simple, with a clear and attractive design. As well as a company profile, the site features up-to-date news about the practice, a look inside its studio, and a list of existing clients. The case studies section provides an excellent showcase for the company's work, including bars, restaurants and hotels; brands; exhibition and lighting; housing; offices; signage; shops; and sport and leisure.
