The European Association of Historic Towns & Regions
 http://www.historic-towns.org/

The European Association of Historic Towns and Regions was formally established at a conference held in the Council of Europe, Strasbourg, in 1999. Hosted at Norwich City Council, it is a network of Historic Towns Associations drawing membership from the countries within the Council of Europe - up to 41 countries. Individual towns or regions can also join as 'associate members'. According to its site, the purpose of the organisation "is to promote the interests of Europe's historic towns - seeking to ensure that policy making bodies recognise and reflect the specific needs of historic towns and their inhabitants and raising public awareness about the importance and value of Europe's cultural heritage". As well as background about the Association, the site includes information about member towns, useful publications to download, and a page of links, as well as material relating to specific themes such as conservation, culture and town centres. The design of the site is much improved of late, with a clean and intuitive interface. [GAS, 14 Oct 2006].

ICOMOS: International Council on Monuments and Sites
 http://www.icomos.org/

ICOMOS is an international non-governmental organisation of professionals, dedicated to the conservation of the world's historic monuments and sites. Features of the site include details of events and activities, an archive of ICOMOS charters, a useful documentation centre and a worthwhile page of related links. Each of the National Committees and International Scientific Committees have their own pages. Though packed with useful content, the design of the site is surprisingly amateurish given ICOMOS' status as a high profile international body. [GAS, 24 Aug 2006].
