Association of Collegiate Schools of Planning (ACSP)
 http://www.acsp.org/

Based in the US, the Association of Collegiate Schools of Planning (ACSP) is a consortium of university-based programmes offering credentials in urban and regional planning. The site explains that by "acting together, the ACSP member school faculty are able to express their shared commitments to understanding the dynamics of urban and regional development, enhancing planning practices, and improving the education of both novice and experienced planners". The site offers some helpful and up-to-date information, including news from both ACSP and its member schools, conference details, an impressive documents archive, and a resources section with many useful links. The design and layout of the site works, though there are no aesthetic frills; this is a shame, as a more professional look would help highlight the quality and usefulness of its content. Cardiff School of City & Regional Planning
 http://www.cf.ac.uk/cplan/

This is a visually appealing and up-to-date website, with sections providing the information you would expect about the School - staff, research, degree programmes, news and events. Hidden away in the 'Research' section, the comprehensive listing of publications and working papers is very useful, though it would be good if more were available as downloads. [GAS, 31 Jan 2008].

Centre for Urban and Regional Studies (CURS)
 http://www.curs.bham.ac.uk/

The Centre for Urban and Regional Studies (CURS), a Department in the School of Public Policy at the University of Birmingham, describes itself as "a leading international centre for research and teaching in housing, regional and local economic development, urban policy and regional and urban regeneration", combining "the worlds of practice, research and education". The CURS site provides an introduction to the Centre's main areas of expertise, together with details of undergraduate, postgraduate and research degrees, and a series of informative staff profiles. Elsewhere, a useful 'department information' section provides details of the Centre's research activities, networks and publications. Overall, the site is quite comprehensive, though it would benefit from more images to help relieve the textiness. [GAS, 7 Jul 2006].

Heriot-Watt University - School of the Built Environment
 http://www.sbe.hw.ac.uk/

The School of the Built Environment describes itself as offering "an almost unique range of educational opportunities spanning the diverse range of professions involved in the planning, design, construction and development of our environment and infrastructure". Closely integrated with the main University website, the SBE pages include detailed and up-to-date information about the School, its courses and its research. With good content and a sleek, professional look, this site ticks all the right boxes; on the downside, partly due to the lack of images, it seems to lack much personality and all feels rather sterile. Leeds Metropolitan University - School of the Built Environment
 http://www.leedsmet.ac.uk/as/benv/

According to its website, the School of the Built Environment at Leeds Met has "achieved national and international recognition for research and consultancy. It offers opportunities for higher degree study by research and has a thriving programme of short courses for continuing professional development". Features of the site include a profile of the School, a reasonably up-to-date news section, and details of the School's research and consultancy activity. Links to course information elsewhere on the Leeds Met site are provided, together with an introduction to the School's subject areas - Surveying and Architectural Technology; Construction and Project Management; Planning, Housing and Human Geography; and Civil Engineering. The site is neatly designed, but by sharing the rather insipid aeshetic of the main Leeds Met site it seems weak at communicating an identity for the School. Equally, the addition of images, staff profiles, and details of publications would add some personality to the School's online presence. [GAS, 29 Apr 2006].

University of Reading - Centre of Planning Studies (CoPS)
 http://www.rdg.ac.uk/cops/

Reading's Centre of Planning Studies (CoPS) describes itself as "an inter-departmental Centre which is based in the Department of Real Estate & Planning but which draws expertise from a range of other Departments in order to deliver a high quality programme of under-graduate and post-graduate courses in town and country planning". The site offers information about courses, research and staff, as well as up-to-date news and events, and a small but worthwhile page of links. University of Texas at Austin - School of Architecture
 http://wnt.utexas.edu/architecture/

This redesigned site offers information on academic programmes at the UT-Austin School of Architecture - as well as architecture, these include historic preservation, sustainable design, architectural history, urban design, community and regional planning, interior design and landscape architecture. Other sections provide information about staff, events, resources, and a useful research and publications section, featuring the online journal Planning Forum. The design of the site is reasonably attractive, though many of the deeper pages are inconsistent in their format; furthermore, the frequent use of images as internal links (with no text alternatives) is poor in terms of accessibility. University of the West of England - School of Planning & Architecture
 http://www.built-environment.uwe.ac.uk/schools/pa/

Part of UWE's Faculty of the Built Environment, The School of Planning & Architecture describes itself as "dedicated to top quality education, training and research in the areas of town planning, urban design and architecture". The site offers information about the School, including courses, staff, research, field courses and exchange visits. It all looks very professional, but reads rather like an online prospectus - there are no added resources here, such as useful links or downloadable publications. [GAS, 2 Oct 2006].
