About Planning
 http://www.aboutplanning.org/

Created and maintained by American planner, Richard Carson, About Planning describes itself as "a clearing house for planning information". True enough, it features over 300 worthwhile links, including websites, publications, essays and news in the areas of land use planning, growth management, comprehensive planning, smart growth and new urbanism. The design of the site is a little disappointing; there are rather too many animated graphics and Java applets, which detract from the content and slow everything down. [GAS, 6 Nov 2005].

Archinet UK Building Directory
 http://www.archinet.co.uk/

Bearing only a passing resemblance to the old Archinet site that used to be hosted here, the new Archinet UK Building Directory is essentially a rebadged version of the excellent Abacus Construction Index; while archinet.co.uk now hosts Abacus' UK content, the existing Abacus site at construction-index.com is being developed as a US-focused resource. If that's all too much to take in, don't worry - just visit Archinet and enjoy it. Aspiring to "bring together in one place recommended sources of information and advice about construction and architecture in the UK", users can browse its featured resources by type (online documents and websites), topic (including architecture, conservation, housing, planning and sustainability) or by product type; entries are well annotated, with lots of useful deeplinks as well as the more usual link to each site's homepage. The site has few visual embellishments, but is neat and easy to use, displaying its content very clearly and without fuss. A valuable resource, awarded a Sapling Commendation. [GAS, 5 Jun 2006].

Cyburbia
 http://www.cyburbia.org/

Cyburbia has undergone a period of change in recent years, with the architecture links purged, and the decision made to refocus entirely on planning. Though the core Resource Directory retains its impressive coverage, with 1,900 planning-related links, it is not clear how often - or whether - this content is being actively maintained. In contrast, Cyburbia's forums are excellent, and incredibly well-used, while the Planetizen news headlines on the home page are also a useful feature, automatically updated on a daily basis. While Cyburbia's glory days as the most important built environment links directory may be over, we can be grateful that its forums remain an exceptionally impressive resource. Awarded a Sapling Commendation. [GAS, 6 Nov 2005].

GEsource Geography and Environment Gateway
 http://www.gesource.ac.uk/

Led by the GEsource team at the University of Manchester, GEsource is a free online catalogue of over 8,000 high quality Internet resources in geography and environmental science (including many resources relevant to landscape architecture, transport, sustainability, and the built environment in general). Resources are selected, catalogued and indexed by researchers and other specialists in their respective fields. The site itself is well-designed and easy to use - visitors can browse by category or search the whole database, while the level of information given about each featured resource is impressive. Elsewhere, the site also boasts a series of 'Feature' sections, including one that draws together resources about a range of natural hazards, and another providing themed timelines that "look at significant dates and events that have shaped the geographical world, from the formation of the Earth to the present day". Overall, this is an excellent site and an invaluable resource. Awarded a Sapling Commendation. [GAS, 20 Jun 2006].

 IKC RO
 http://www.ikcro.nl/

IKC RO is a Netherlands-based portal focused on physical planning, housing and environment. There are many useful features here, including an excellent section of web links organised by theme, plus links to planning-related articles and discussion sites. Although the site is wholly in Dutch, the structure of the site makes it fairly easy for anyone to understand and use. [GAS, 29 May 2007].

Internet Resources for City Planning Research
 http://www.lib.berkeley.edu/ENVI/cityweb.html

Provided by the University of California Berkeley Library for their students, this site is nonetheless a handy resource for anyone interested in city and regional planning. The site is kept up to date, featuring useful web links, as well as details of other resources, such as journals, books and encyclopedias. On the downside, the site's text is rather small, and the design could do with being refreshed. [GAS, 17 Aug 2005].

Online Planning Resources
 http://www.nottingham.ac.uk/sbe/planbiblios/

This site has two main parts - the first featuring up-to-date and comprehensive A-Z listings of planning-related organisations and websites; and the second a set of comprehensive bibliographies, covering topics such as green issues in planning, sustainable urban travel, countryside planning and urban regeneration. The site has no visual frills, but doesn't really need any; it is well maintained by Hugh McClintock at the University of Nottingham's Institute of Urban Planning, and is designed primarily for students taking his modules. However, anyone else studying planning will almost certainly find it a valuable reference source. Due to Hugh McClintock's retirement in June 2006, the site is about to be incorporated into Rudi; hopefully it will reamin free to access in its new home. Awarded a Sapling Commendation. Portaal Ruimte en Vastgoed
 http://www.ruimte-en-vastgoed.nl/

This Dutch language site is an attractively designed and well-organised portal with more than 1000 links to urban planning-related websites and documents. Predictably, its focus is the Netherlands, but sites from Belgium, Luxembourg and elsewhere in Europe are also featured. [GAS, 16 Aug 2005].
