It is an excellent site, attractively illustrated with photographs, showcasing residential projects by architectural practices of all sizes throughout the UK and Ireland.  Compiled by Robert Reynolds, The Subway Page (or pages, really) is a hugely impressive and regularly updated collection of worldwide links to subway and other transportation information resources. One of the main features is a detailed list of links to city subway maps. Other sections cover - among others - subway route navigation aids; city and area transit guides; individual, institutional, and corporate transit pages; and museums, historical displays, and clubs. One might quibble about the site's slightly basic appearance, but this is essentially a site where the excellent content holds sway. Overall, a comprehensive and lovingly compiled resource, awarded a Sapling Commendation. [GAS, 13 May 2008].

 Designed and maintained by Wiltshire-based Cathedral Communications Limited, buildingconservation.com is described as "the online information centre for the conservation and restoration of historic buildings, churches and garden landscapes", drawing its content from The Building Conservation Directory, Historic Churches and Historic Gardens. The site includes an excellent collection of essential articles by leading experts; a products and services directory, listing suppliers of products, specialist consultants, specialist contractors and craftsmen, as well as advisory bodies and organisations; a building conservation bookshop, conveniently organised by subject; and up-to-date coverage of events and courses. Benefiting from a recent refresh of its design, the site is reasonably well-organised and logical to navigate. Edinburgh Architecture

 This site acts as an information source for all things related to contemporary Edinburgh architecture. It aims to "inform both locals and an international audience of Edinburgh's architecture scene". Although the colour-scheme is somewhat garish, this doesn't detract from the site's usability. The homepage is clear and succinct as is the layout of each page. Moreover, you have to admire the work that has gone into the content of this site. It is an extremely informative site, with relative information for everything related to the local architectural world. There is an extensive links page (boasting links to 300 other Edinburgh sites), a contacts page with the details of local architects, and an excellent events page detailing the latest exhibitions, events and reviews, which is archived back to 2000, and is updated daily. Interaction is included in the news page which "acts as a resource and as a forum for discussion of topical issues, new buildings and masterplans". An impressive feature of the site are the area maps of Edinburgh that detail possible tours of the city's architectural highlights. For anyone interested in the architecture of Edinburgh, this is the place to head. Awarded a Sapling Commendation. [DJP/GAS, 30 Jan 2008].

 The Contaminated Land Assessment & Remediation Research Centre (CLARRC) describes itself as "a centre of excellence for multi-disciplinary research, developing technologies for sustainable, cost effective assessment and remediation of contaminated environments, promoting their transfer to industry". CLARRC draws on the resources of groups across the College of Science and Engineering at the University of Edinburgh, the Schools of Life Sciences and Built Environment at Napier University and from the Scottish Universities Environmental Research Centre (SUERC). The CLARRC site is a comprehensive and valuable resource, with news, details of projects, and information on international and commercial activities. Meanwhile, a dedicated 'resources' section includes many downloadable factsheets and other documents, while an excellent links section features over 330 other sites related to the Centre's themes.
