The site is attractively designed and well organised, and provides period home improvement advice, listings of period property for sale in the UK, and insurance and restoration services for old houses and listed buildings. Highlights include the Agony Uncle section (for expert advice about maintaining or conserving period properties), and an exceptionally popular discussion forum. Overall, Period Property UK is a rich and enjoyable site which strikes a good balance between its more commercial content and its wealth of useful information and tips. Based in the Netherlands but written completely in English, DutchArchitects.com is a rich and exciting site. Its core content is a unique, searchable architecture database featuring hundreds of buildings, interior-, landscape- and urban planning projects, covering more than 2,900 Dutch design offices, and supported by more than 11,000 good quality pictures (the site's emphasis seems to be on the work of Dutch architects, anywhere in the world, rather than necessarily on buildings in the Netherlands). The site also has useful features such as project reviews, links to other architecture sites, and job opportunities. Highlights include the useful glossary of planning terms and the excellent 'UK local plan monitor', with information about the current progress and status of plans throughout the UK, plus links to the relevant local authority websites. Importantly, the site's authorship - Ian P. Based in London, the world's first Museum of Garden History is at the restored church of St Mary-at-Lambeth next to Lambeth Palace, the London residence of the Archbishop of Canterbury. The website is attractively designed and packed with useful historical details, including comprehensive and well-illustrated information about the Tradescant Garden, a 17th century style knot garden created on the site of the old church graveyard. The site also provides architectural news headlines, and the information about current architectural competitions is another useful feature. Great Buildings Online describes itself as a "gateway to architecture around the world and across history" - certainly, it is one of the most useful architecture sites on the web. Its coverage is impressive - claiming to feature a thousand buildings and hundreds of leading architects, with resources including 3D models, photographic images, architectural drawings, commentaries, bibliographies and links. The site itself is attractively designed and straightforward to use - visitors can search the Great Buildings database by architect, building or place. Search results are displayed clearly, and the quality of the images, in particular, is excellent. An essential site for anyone researching a famous architect or building. Laprofession.org - Landscape Architecture

Laprofession.org is an excellent, well-designed site with a great deal of helpful information about landscape architecture. Highlights include the Practice section, with an impressive and well-illustrated projects archive; the Education section, with details about becoming a landscape architect; and the Schools section, with a comprehensive listing of landscape schools in the US and worldwide. There is also a helpful links section, featuring organisations, news and publications. The main drawback is that the site is designed using Flash, which can slow things down a bit, and means that an up-to-date browser is essential. CEBE is one of 24 Subject Centres which comprise part of the Higher Education Academy. According to its site, "the primary purpose of CEBE is to provide discipline based support for learning and teaching in the built environment subject communities of Architecture, Landscape, Urban Planning, Housing and Transport, Construction and Real Estate". Recently redesigned, CEBE's website is up-to-date and attractive, featuring news and events, subject and issue based materials for enhancing learning and teaching, projects and initiatives, and a useful publications section. Elsewhere, and excellent 'resources finder' provides a searchable directory of Internet sites for built environment academics, provided in association with the Resource Discovery Network.
