Engineering the Thames

Description The Forum will explore a wide variety of engineering topics from the Roman times to current themes such as managing fresh and salt water sites, the development of the new port of London Gateway and the Thames Tideway Tunnel - the largest such project ever undertaken in the UK. The Forum includes an exhibition and informs about the latest and future issues on the Estuary. If you have a stake in the Estuary this is a great opportunity to engage with more than 200 stakeholders. Entry includes conference pack, lunch and refreshments.

Description With the theme of fresh approaches to high-density urban architecture this specially commissioned exhibition will feature drawings, photographs and scale models of some of the most dramatic new urban architecture in one of the world’s most dynamic cities. Spanning buildings and Vancouver’s stunning urbanism, the exhibition focuses on recent work by architects Bing Thom, James Cheng, engineers Fast + Epp and the dean of Canadian architects, Arthur Erickson.

To accompany the exhibition inside Canada House, the exterior of the building will host a stunning temporary sculptural installation designed by Bing Thom architects and Fast + Epp structural engineers

Description This Is Not A Gateway Festival is a free three-day event in Dalston, London that is forging new ways of investigating cities and the changing global urban condition. Emerging European practitioners from the fields of film, photography, literature, critical theory, performance, architecture and planning come together to reveal knowledge about cities ‘from the ground up’. The three-day festival comprises over 40 separate events including discussions, film screenings, workshops, symposiums, exhibitions and walks. The programme includes work from over 100 of the most compelling emerging urbanists from across Europe. All events are open to the public.
